Doctor Wallace says:
I first saw Jeremy in June, 2000. Prior to seeking consultation with me, he had visited 5 other laser centers. Nobody at any of the other centers alerted him to the potential problems that can arise in treating eyes with large pupils. He was also rather put off by the high-pressure sales tactics he felt at other laser centers.
When we examined Jeremy, we found extremely large pupils (measuring 8.5mm in the right eye and 9.0mm in the left). Being an animation coordinator, Jeremy does a lot of critical work in subdued illumination, especially when editing.
I advised “very large optical zone” treatment with an appropriately capable laser system, to minimize risks of glare, night vision problems, etc. He was very cautious, and I stayed in touch with him by email for several months before he decided to proceed.
He had his primary treatment in October ’00, and did require a tiny additional treatment for microscopic wrinkles in the left flap a week later. In December, we performed enhancement treatment for his right eye.
We last saw Jeremy in July, ’02. He retains 20/20 vision in both eyes, and he remains thrilled with his results. He denies any problems with glare, halo, night vision difficulty, night driving, or work in his editing room.
Even with extremely large pupils, and with a vision-critical occupation like Jeremy’s, I feel it is quite possible to render laser vision care with the kind of results that satisfy his very demanding expectations.
