Doctor Wallace says:
Jerrald came to me interested in LASIK for his farsightedness. After reviewing his visual status and overall needs, I determined that cataract-style surgery with lens implantation might be a better option for him, for several reasons.
While LASIK can do a great job correcting farsightedness and astigmatism, the procedure sometimes produces a result with slightly inferior quality of vision compared to lens implantation, in patients of Jerald’s age. The other consideration is that, if even mild cataracts are already present (as they were in this case), performing LASIK does not correct this problem and the cataracts will cause worsening of vision over time. Ultimately, cataract surgery would have to be performed anyway.
Jerald wanted to retain good reading vision in his right eye, and achieve good distance vision in his left eye. Our modern methods of lens implant calculation allowed us to achieve a virtually perfect result, right on target.
