Doctor Wallace says:
Gwen is an excellent example of how nicely “monovision” can work in certain situations. She is 51 years of age, and was nearsighted all her life. She wanted to be able to see to drive, without glasses, but did not want to lose clarity at close distances which she needs for reading. We tried her in various combinations of soft contact lenses to demonstrate monovision, and she took to it like a fish to water. Ultimately this allowed us to know that we could treat her right eye targeting full distance correction, and her left eye targeting only partial nearsighted correction. The combination (when both eyes are open, of course!) gives her very functional visoin at both ranges, and she is quite happy. We saw her in May of ’08 at her 1-year anniversary, and she was still beaming with delight about the results of her care.
